Empowering women in parking, revenues and enforcement

The parking, revenues and enforcement industries have long been perceived as male-dominated sectors, but this is changing. With the emergence of groups like Women in Parking (WIP) and Women in Revenues and Enforcement (WIRE), there’s a renewed focus on empowering women, fostering diversity, and encouraging male allies to support this progress.

Women in Parking

Since its launch in September 2020, Women in Parking (WIP) has made significant strides in creating a community of over 300 members dedicated to supporting women within the industry. By offering networking opportunities, WIP provides a platform for women to share experiences, discuss challenges, and support one another.

In 2022, WIP focused on diversity within the British Parking Association (BPA) membership and the broader parking sector. Partnering with the BPA's technology, innovation and research department, WIP spearheaded a diversity research project to better understand the sector’s demographic makeup.

This initiative, born from discussions during WIP’s open meetings, underscores the importance of recognising and addressing the barriers to diversity and inclusion within the industry. The findings from this research offered valuable insights into how the sector can evolve.

In 2024, WIP has committed to expanding its reach across the UK, hosting events, and continuing to build a robust support network. Their mission is clear: to create opportunities for women to thrive and to promote a more inclusive and equitable industry.

Taking it one step further, WIP now officially support Smart Works, a UK-based charity that exists to give women the confidence they need to reach their full potential, secure employment and change the trajectory of their lives.

Women in Revenues and Enforcement

In January 2024, the Women in Revenues and Enforcement (WIRE) group was launched, aiming to challenge gender disparities in a field traditionally dominated by men. This group seeks to support women at all stages of their careers, from entry-level positions to leadership roles and is dedicated to empowering women through mentorship, coaching, and advocacy.

One of the key initiatives discussed at their kick-off meeting was the encouragement of female speakers at industry events. By amplifying women’s voices, WIRE hopes to highlight the valuable experiences and perspectives that women bring to the table. The group also aims to create a supportive community where members can share their challenges and successes, fostering an environment of mentorship and peer support.

The group recognises the importance of male allies and invites men, women, and non-binary individuals to join the cause, emphasising the need for collective action to drive meaningful change.

Excel’s commitment to diversity and female leadership

Excel is at the forefront of promoting gender diversity in the parking, revenues and enforcement sectors. With a significant number of women in senior positions, Excel is dedicated to investing in their futures at the business and supporting them to achieve their professional goals.
